Sorry guys but this is not truely a ford ? I'm looking for a new truck to pull my 23' pull behind camper (bumper) since I wrecked my 96 f250 psd. I fould a good deal on a 94 gmc 1500 with a 4.3 5 speed. Would this truck have the power to do it? I know it is not going to pull like my psd did. My uncle pulls his with a f150 so it being a half ton does not worry me. I'm more worried about the tranny holding up with it being only a 6 bangger. I really don't care about how fast I can get up to speed or how much I slow down when i come to hills cause I do't take it far from home.(not more than 50 miles) Thanks for any input.
the 4.3 is a weak engine so ya wont be going fast but I would think for what you described it would do the job. Its definatly alot more comfortably pulling with a 3/4 ton than a 1/2. Ya feel more in control of your load. Too bad about your truck.......If ya look around ya can pick up another OBS powerstroke fairly cheap....
Thanks for the input. I thought about getting anouther psd but price of fuel. I know 15 to 18 is not bad for what you get. I put alot of miles on and that 30+ cents more a gallon adds up quick. What happen to the days when gas cost more
You have to have the right tool for the job. a 23' bumper pull will kill that little gas V-6, and never cause the PSD to work up a sweat. Even a small gas V-8 would be marginal.

If all your pulling is basically flat, then you can get away with your V-6 and manual. I'd be concerned about uphill starts, and backing the camper into sites (smokin' clutch). You can improve your 'power' by lowering your rear end gearing to a 4.11 or something in that range depending on your pumpkin.
