i told the dealer that i felt that the car bogged out up hill because the shifts happened too soon, i know that sounds like a rant, (it's not a sports car) but he looked into it and it turns out there is an upgrade for the tranny computer that will change the shifts. after the dealer test drove it he said that he still felt it shifted early, but there was still a noticable improvement. check it out maybe the guy was treating me like a noob to stop me from harrassing him about it. i didn't think stock trannys could make adjustments in the shifts, i thought you would need a special module like the abs uses, maybe it does? does any one know?

So the dealer upgraded the PCM software and the shifting improved? Does your paperwork specify what was done? What year and model do you have?

thats what i mean about me beeing a noob. my radiator was going at the same time, i thought that that is why the tranny was acting wierd, he said it wasn't but that there was an upgrade available for the tranny, i would have to dig out last years paperwork to see if it was mentioned on the service report. so are you suggesting that i might have been taken, i have a 03 fwd xls, and it was so long ago that i cant remember the spacific improvment, the radiator was fixed at the same time ( used radiator that the body shop ripped me off with) but im almost sure that the problem wasn't each gear but just o/d kicked in too soon while i still need torque.
My '01 PCM software was upgraded once to alleviate torque converter shudder when the transmission is hot, but it didn't change any of the other shifting patterns. At normal temps, the torque converter still locks up too soon and unlocks too easily because the engine rpm is too far below the torque sweet spot. I was hoping something recent had been released to fix that.
