My 99 F250 4X4 SD lost brakes when the line to the rear brakes failed. The pedal went to the floor; PANIC set in. I was told by the tow truck driver that this is a common problem. I replaced the 11 foot long brake line with two 60" and one 20" coated brake lines. I wanted a one piece line but found the 3 pieces easy to install and readily available. I checked with the Ford garage and they said the brakes do have two circuits but it is set up with rear brake priority and very little braking is done by the front brakes. He said that the front brakes do work on a rear failure but the pedal is almost to the floor and the braking effect is marginal. My brake line parted in an area obscured by the gas tank. I would not wish this experience on anyone, especially if you are tailgating me! Has anyone else experienced this brake line failure?
Well I've never experienced it, but I have a problem with the explanation you were given. The very purpose of having dual systems is to be able to rely on the backup when the primary fails. To be told that the fronts don't work and aren't designed to is ridiculous. Of course there is the 3rd system, the emergency brake, but I suppose that's not supposed to work either?
