Is it necessary to remove the exhaust when I install my pyro in the driver's manifold? I'm worried about running the metal shavings through the turbo. Also looking at installing a boost guage. Where do I attach the sending unit?
The boost gauge should be installed between the turbo fan and the intake manifold. You will want to drill and tap this one before mounting the turbo unit to keep metal fragments from passing through the engine. Pay close attention to the orientation of the part before drilling to ensure the location will be o.k. after the turbo is bolted up.
The tolerences in the turbo are not so thight that any little drill shaving is going to get stuck in it. If anything falls inside the tube it will blow right out the exhaust without issue.
You can also drill it with it running, or pack the drill bit full of grease, or use magnet around the hole after you drill it to fish the pieces out.
The intake hat has a plug already in it. If your boost guage comes with hardware, then i twill have the right fitting with it... I ordered ISSPRO and it was in the box. Anyways the intake hat is the piece between the intake manifold and the turbo, looks like a snail.
I agree with cookie88, the risk you take of damaging the turbo with a shaving or two is minimal.
If you don't want to take the chance then remove the manifold from truck or minimize your risk by keeping the truck running. Neither would be my first choice.
