I have a 02 PSD with door lock and dome light issues that I cannot figure out. Both swithes in the door will not lock or unlock the doors. I can use the keyless controler and all four doors will lock and unlock as expected. The dome light will come on when I use the keyless controler but goes out after around 30 seconds. When I open the doors the light stays out and the radio will continue to play unless I turn it off manually. I have tried spraying the latches thinking it was a stuck door switch, but that doesn't work. All my fuses look good and I have switched out the relays and nothing seems to be wrong. Is there some other module that is bad? Do I need to dig further into each door. I assume that if the keyless entry will lock and unlock the security module under the dash would be good. As a last resort I'm thinking of taking each door apart and checking each door switch. Any help would be appreciated.
Does it act the same on both front doors, or just yours? Sounds like the switch in that door. It could be just a bad connection. Pull your door panel off and check the plugs. It is possible for water run down inside the plug and cause some corrosion problems. I think that the dome light timer works only off the drivers door. Good luck and welcome to FTE. .
jverba, I have your exact problems on my 2002 F-350. I have torn into the doors and found nothing shorted. According to a couple of guys the VSM is to blame, I have yet to unplug to reset it. I would try that first. Good Luck.
Thanks for the input. I just finished removing all the door trim from each of the 4 doors. I checked all the wires and switches with my voltmeter and everthing appears to be working. I checked all the plugs for corrosion or bad conection and can't seem to find anything. I also checked for any bad wires from the switches to the dash but don't see anything wrong. I looked under the dash for loose connections or bad ground but it appears good. I have noticed that my door ajar light doesn't come on at all, even when I first start the truck. How do I reset the VSM? I guess I better start with where is it? I saw a module behind the radio. I have disconnected the batteries, but do I need to do something special to reset the VSM? Thanks for the help...At least I'm not alone with the problem.
My door ajar light doesn't come on either. I bet your door locks don't auto lock when you hit 15 MPH either, mine doesn't. The VSM is the module right behind the radio, supposedly if you unplug the wiring harness going to it for about 15 minutes it resets the module. Let me know what you find out. I have a felling that our VSM needs to be replaced. But if you get good results from unplugging the module then I'll try doing mine.
The stealership wants $140.00 for the VSM and $40.00 to flash it and that is without labor. Guzzle replaced his by unbolting the module from the firewall and layed it on the hump of the truck, the stealership flashed his truck to retreive the infooff the old module then hooked up the new mudule and they reflashed the truck to download the info into the new module. Then he bolted the module bach up himself. Saves on labor, which is steep.
