Hi, I have a 1984 f250 HD that has LT235/85/R16 tires that I want to replace with something larger/wider but no one seems to know what will fit, i've been told that I cannot put a wider tire on it because it will scrape, can I put a 70 series width, or a 245 series tire on this Truck? Thanks-JSP
ok here's how to figure out the max size you can squeeze in there.
with the wheel on, measure to the nearest thing that the tire will hit, lock to lock. take about a 1/2'' extra, and this is the maximim BACKSPACING that you can have. With custom wheels, you can go out as far as you feel. This means that it's up to your laws in the area as to tires outside of wheelwells and your won taste as to how wide you can go. If you want them to end at the wheelwell, then use a plumb bob at the edge of the wheel well and measure to the tire again. This is your frontspacing. These two added togethre is the max width that you can hae under the truck. Hope it helps.
i have an 86 f250 4x4 and i have 285/75-16's on 16x8 wheels. they seem to clear fine pics are in my gallery.i wouldn't want any bigger on a stock truck. i plan to lift mine this spring, hence to photo-shop pics in the gallery.also watch out for rim width, you may have a 6' wide stock rim that would limit you some.
