Want A Budget Torque Increase
I'm sure this has appeared before somewhere on this great forum, but I haven't seen it. I have 177,000 miles on my 460 runs great but thought maybe a timing chain was in order. I bought a Cloyes Street TRUE Roller under $40 from Jegs. I was going to go back to TDC. after reading Cloyes instructions I decided to set it 4 degrees advanced of TDC. On a other post I asked about this, well after having a chance to drive it awhile I'm amazed at the difference that 4 degrees over TDC makes. I have better vacunm, the lag that comes in shifting a C-6 is gone, the torque is much greater. I did pay a price and for me that was OK, I lost some speed but it still will reach 4400 RPM in 3rd gear and that's over 100 MPH, not bad for an 86 F250 4x4 with 3:55s. Even in Arizona they frown on driving that fast. I can't wait to hook our trailer behind it and see how it acts. So if you think you gained setting your chain on TDC and you tow, you left alot on the table.
