Unhappy Trouble shifting into 4WD??

I recently had the occasion to use 4WD in my truck for the first few times (in snow). I have the electronic shift on the fly as well as manually locking hubs, and each time I was traveling below the maximum speed to shift and the wheels were not spinning. Most of the time when I switch to/from 4WD electronically it works fine, but sometimes it doesn't switch (especially from 2WD to 4WD) at all. I even turned the hubs and nothing happened. Once, after getting stuck trying to drive up a slippery road while towing a trailer - in 2WD because it wouldn't shift, I had to have my friend tow me in his TOYOTA (); after getting up the road I shut the truck off - only to find when I restarted it that it had engaged 4WD.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there any kind of software reflash or dealer service that has been offered to solve this kind of problem?

Thanks!

ESOF -Electroninc Shift On the Fly

Year and milage comes to mind. You can buy an O-ring seal repair kit for your front hubs and R&R the locking hubs. The hubs are probably dry & lacking lubrication. Another item to check, is vacume to your hubs, you might have a leak.

Ok, take it back to the dealer and let them fix the problem. You must have a vacuum leak going to the front hubs or an electrical problem to the transfer case solenoid.

Like any shift mechanism, if the gears are not meshing, it wont shift. You could have a leaking seal, a lack of hub lubrication, but probably not on a new vehicle. Try shifting into 4 Hi when you are going straight, reasonaly slow, and in steady state, i.e. no wheel slippage. The 4*4 light should come on in about a 3 second delay. What I mean by steady state, is that you are going a constant speed, you are not slowing or speeding up, as this will cause gears to load up in the transfer case and not release the shift.

Just my 2 cents, this is how mine works, and it works well. If you wait till you are in trouble, its too late, of you are spinning or stuck. At this point, you should really get out and manually lock and use 4 Low.

Hmmm, exactly why I got a truck with manual hubs and manual transfer case, they very rarely let you down,(I never had a problem) and you can go into 2-wheel low, when needed to back up a heavy trailer,(no binding on dry ground in 4x4 low) I've used it many times,,,,,,, get your truck checked out
