I am thinking seriously about buying a 1982 big bronco. What kind of purchasing advice can I get from you guys out there? What to look for? Thanks in advance!!!
I own a 1982 with a 300 I-6 three speed with overdrive standard trans.I bought her two years ago and still love it.I like it because its carberated and no computers.I guess I'm stuck in the past,I grew up working on my own cars and hate to pay someone to work on it.To me the older ones are easier and cheeper to maintain.
Check for everything ,oil leaks, motor runs good, take it for a test drive, water leaks, brakes, four wheel drive works,no smoking, general look of it to see if the owner has taken care of it,and so on. Dont expect it to be perfect, because of its age it WILL need some work.Since I bought mine I put in a remanufactured motor, rebuilt trans and a new clutch as I an slowly restoring mine.Good luck ,I hope you buy yours and have fun.
I just bought an 83, I was fore warned about the smog equipment on it and vacuum lines but I couldn't pass it up. If your state doesn't have emissions then all you have to worry about is the Duraspark ignition system which most people replace anyway if they can get away with it.
I like my 83, paid $400 for it and it's in excellent shape.
Like scurbiedog says, test drive it, check for the typical things under the hood/body. I've found parts to be readily available and inexpensive and if you can't find something chances are the local JY has a couple Ford's in their collection.
Hey IanCT.......I dont want to hi-jack the thread but I just had to say it, that is a outstanding looking Bronco for $400!!!!!!! Keep her close to your heart, and treat her like you love her........and then you can keep her on the road for many many years to come!
that is a outstanding looking Bronco for $400!!!!!!!
Thank you, It was quite a find on Craigslist. The PO just wanted to get the money back that he put into the exhaust system and didn't want to worry about putting more money into it at the shop so he bought a new truck for work and I took this one off his hands. The interior is clean, headliner sags but I'm replacing it. Differential has been swapped, with what I don't know but he had a ton of receipts for the truck, I saw any work that was done to it and nothing scared me from those receipts so I took it and drove it home, immediately drained the oil and started working on it the next day.
Dieselan250 - Have you got any more details on your truck? How much is the owner asking, and how many miles?
