I have a 79 150 4x4 and I recently rebuilt the top end. In the process of removing the exhuast manifold and carb spacer I broke the metal tube between the two. I believe this tube recirculates unburned fuel back into the intake....am i right? My problem is, ford has no record of this tube ever being on the engine and it's not in my chiltons either. Worst case, I guess I can replace it with a peice of copper tubing, but that will be a hassel.....is this thing nessasary or can I just cap the holes? Any ideas????
that is just the pre-heat for the choke, it want make a difference if you cap it ,or you could unbolt it from the manifold and pull one off another manifold, its not important enough to put in copper tubing. No big deal.
I'm thinking you must have a 351M or 400 in that 79 4X4. I have a 79 2wd 302 and it has two tubes between carb, and manifold, not spacer. The spacer has an EGR valve on it, which has a vaccuum line but no metal tube. The tubes I have are hot air tubes for the choke. One comes from the top of the carb horn, and goes to a hole on the bottom of exhaust manifold. The exhaust manifold has a small tube passage drilled through it but not connected to exhaust fumes. The other end of the passage has tube stuck in it leading to choke houseing. The M engines are set up differently though, is that what you have?
my '79 4x4 with a 300 I-6 has the same metal tube you are talking about. i thought it was the source of recirc air for the egr valve. it comes off of the exhaust manifold and plumbs into the bottom of the plenum/spacer that the egr valve mounts onto. my egr system hasn't been running the best lately, but i still have the tube connected. i would either reconnect it with the copper (or try using regular pipe fittings) or just ****can the entire emissions system completely. then you could just plug the line out of the manifold. good luck with it
What size engine do you have chickenhole? You're sure it went from the intake/exhaust to the spacer and not to your carb? It sounds like it's part of the choke stove.
the tube is part of your thermactor system....it is emissions stuff and is a big piece of crap...i took ALL my emissions stuff off and slapped an edelbrock on...if you have emissions equipment requirements for state inspection, just change your fuel filler neck...yours probably has a little block-plate that has a spring on it where you put the gas nozzle into....i changed mine to one that is just the big hole....then you don't even have to have catalytic converters.....
