Looking at a really nice truck from a local dealer.
2001 F-350 4x4 Lariat Crewcab Longbed
99,535 miles
Runs perfect.
I got ahold of the repair orders for an oil change he had performed at the local ford dealership. It enlightened me to some scary things. The truck was 7 qts low.
What kind of damage could you expect if your powerstroke was 7qts low? Should I still consider the truck. Hes willing to through in a free 3 month/4,500mi warrentee but I don't know enough about the powerstroke and its reliability/longevity to make a unbiased decision. Its been hard to find any kind of a decent that will meet our requirements for reasonable price.
well that would make it 50% capacity. how do they know for sure it was 7 quarts? the 7.3 will not run without oil pressure so there should not be any damage.
I have to call the ford dealer that did the oil change tomorrow and find out more information about how low the oil actully was. The repair order just says that the truck was 7qt or more low. We're not really too sure how they came up with the number.
Wouldn't there be an oil or check engine light on if it was that low? At what point would you see indication the oil was low? Would you think being that low would cause any concern for damage or wear on the motor? Again I have no idea how long it was that low.
Talked to FORD DEALER that serviced the truck. They said it's bullet proof and that if there's not enough oil it just won't run. I specifically asked 3 different techs individually, "What will being that low on oil do to the motor. Will it cause any extra wear or damage to the engine" All three looked at me like I was stupid and said there was nothing to worry about
On top of that, I made the dealer through in a 6 MONTH, 7,500 Mile warrenty on the truck at no charge.
