Steering Wheel Retrofit

Hey guys. Does anyone know if a '67-'72 steering wheel will bolt onto a '73-'79 column? I've got a '69 F100 4x4, and the former owner put in a '73-'79 steering column when he upgraded to power steering, topping it off with a Grant wheel. I'd rather have the old steering wheel, but I don't want to mess around with replacing the whole column.

No, the 67-70 three spoke wheels are different from the 73-79 wheels. Even within the 73-79 series there are differences. I just got a wheel from a 76 and tried to put it onto my 79 column with no luck, I also attempted to put a three spoke 67-70 wheel on the 76 column I put in my truck with no luck. The steering shaft splines and taper are the same, but the horn circuit/blinker switch assemblies/cosmetic pieces aren't compatible. I hate the modern look of the 79 column/tiny vinyl car style steering wheel, so I had to change my column to a 76 column & everything associated with it to get my truck back to original. I ended up using a 76 F-100 2wd column (which I modified for length only) and wheel (so that they match each other) and I'm guessing they match my 1975 F250 4x4 with manual steering as well (Though I won't swear to it because I'm not the knucklehead that took the original column/wheel out!).

I just installed a 71 wheel on my 76. It looked the same, but after I tried to put it on I found one difference. There is a lip moulded into the side nearest the column. The 76 has a deeper lip than the 71.
Sure took a lot of nerve to put a NOS wheel into a lathe. Looks great now.
