87 Ranger Engine/transission Conversion

See if you guys can help me out with this...

I currently Have an 87 Ranger supercab

I have a 2.9l with the Manual 5spd Mitsubishi transmission and transfer case.

Here is what I want to do

I want to put a 4.0l engine in this, will this mount up the same to my transmissions bell housing as the 2.9l maybe even the mounts as well?

Aside from the computer and wiring which is a head ache I am willing to take on, is this possible (i mean the hood dimensions are the same)

And can I take it a step farther and put the Mazda transmission on?

Thank you for your help

Yes it will fit. Like you said, ECM, and wiring harnesses will need to be swapped. If you can swap the tranny to an m5od you would be golden. I assume that you have the FM146 now the pressure plate and clutch will not mate with the 4.0 flywheel, this is not to say that you cant put the clutch kit from a 4.0 into the fm146 because you can. With the m5od you will get a bigger clutch and it will mate with the 4.0. I believ the difference is something like 8-7/8" clutch v.s. 10-1/4" clutch.
