Hi, I have an '05 F250 6.0L diesel and have recently noticed that the turbo intermittently spools up despite the fact that I floor it. I sometimes have to wait a long time for the turbo to spool-up, and when it does, it does not reach the usual 35PSI. Any ideas? I was thinking that it might be a clogged air filter, but I only have 4500 miles on it. Thanks in advance for your help!
You guys are all right. I don't know why I said 35PSI. I meant to say 25PSI. Anyway, I changed the air filter and the problem seems to have gone away. Thanks for your interest!
Yeah, I had to problem. It got worse over time. I thought it was the vgt solenoid but when I took it in they replaced the whole Turbo and vgt stuff all at once. I still think it was the vgt solenoid but oh well.
Mine got to where it would not spool up until the rpm's reached about 2300.
i have the same problem now with my truck. there are times where my turbo wont spool up at all 3rd through over drive. its bleeds boost pressure off real slow. the only mod that is done to the truck is a 4" downpipe and 5" exhaust which i think im going to change to 4".
i guess egr valve, vgt solenoid, or turbo is getting stuck
Can you explain the how the egr valve would affect the turbo? Just curious.
Oh BTW, mine started to do it again this past weekend while pulling my stock trailer. Back to the 2100-2200 RPM before I get any boost which is a real PIA when towing over 10,000 pounds down the interstate.

I still haven't been able to replicate the problem. Now, it could be that I need to tow/haul my quad motorcycle up a steep hill as I was doing when the problem occurred. I'll try that this weekend. But still, that's only about 400 lbs max. This is a strange one. Who knows, may be going to the desert 8 times in a row may cause something to get dirty that is not suppossed to. That's why I thought it was the air filter.
Hi purplewg,
I forgot to ask.... was it a cold day when your spool-up issues occurred? It was a cold day for me. Not only that, but, I was mainly going uphill for about 10 miles. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I was towing my quad which only weighs about 400 lbs.
Also, did you replace your air-filter? I wonder if our porblems are due to intermittent cloggs in our air filters.

No it wasn't cold. It was about 70 that morning. EVERY time mine has started to act up my truck has set in the garage for 2-3 weeks. I mainly use it for towing trailers. The last time they replaced the whole turbo assembly and it has not missed a lick until now. I think it was about 3-4 months ago when they replaced it. Now I have to wait until it goes AWOL again before I can take it in. No need to take it in while it is working as they will just say, "we can't make it fail".
Well... the air filter didn't do the trick. It still has intermittent spool-up problems. I'm going to take it in now. I kinda didn't want to do that since it means getting my firmware reflashed. I heard too many horror stories about the reflash taking away power, making it quieter, and screwing the fuel milage. Geees! I hate putting up with problems on new vehicles!
