Dizzy timing/miss
(the new diz had the big slot openings 23 and 18?) I bought some new springs from a local shop that were supposed to be lighter than stock (to replace the post-emissions era springs).
I have timed it with a light, and the advance is done by 2500rpms.
At 12btdc, it runs smooth, but a bit sluggish. yeah, I know it is a heavy old truck. But if I advance the timing a couple degrees, the motor livens up a lot. But has a noticeably rougher idle, and a miss thoughout the low to mid rpm range, but still runs much stronger. It is not pinging or detonating, (that I can ever hear anyway) it is not advanced enough to be hard to turn over...
Back off the advance the rpm smoothes out, but also accelerates too mildly too. Advance it, and the rough idle sounding miss comes back...
Is the retarded timing masking another deal, or is the advance timing magnifying one. (good coil, good plugs) (wires...?)thanks , Barca.
