I bought a Cloyes Street TRUE Roller timing set, for my 86 F250 4x4 460. reading the directions it recommends setting the crank gear @ 4 degrees advanced for low end torque. I keep reading about setting at TDC. Can someone tell me what to expect setting it @ 4 degrees advanced?
PS. This trucks main job is to pull about 10,000# I seldom drive this truck over 70 MPH empty, I like to tow around 60 MPH. also I run 3:55s soon 4:10s the tranny is a C-6.
Thanks,

for every 4 degress you move the peak hp or peak torque 200 rpm if you still have the stock chain on which is about 8 degress retarded you would be moving 600 rpm. So if you are making peak hp @ 3600 you would be making peak hp @ 3000 but if you installed an open element air cleaner and headers or exhaust your peak hp would be higher then 3600 rpm(which is stock). I have a 87 and was planning on changing my chain to 4 degress advance from stock. I also have 3:73 in my rear end and I would like 3:55, want to meet in yuma and trade.

What I have done is set it 4 degrees advanced of TDC as per Cloyes instructions for max towing. I really notice more torque empty less speed which is OK by me. My concern is it going to be too much timing when towing, causing maybe over heating, or what ever?
