i got up the other morning and tried to start my truck and no fuel was getting to the carb. i removed the line coming from the fuel pump to the carb just before the inline filter. I cranked the engine and no fuel was being pumped out of the line. I am to asoom that the fuel pump(mechanical) is toasted? Can anyone tell me how hard it is to change and have I fully diagnosted the problem corectley?
sorry I guess you need a little more info.
1984 f150
302 2barrel carb
non fuel injected
dual tanks
both full of fuel
any help would be great.
p.s. is i common for a fuel pump to just stop working all of a sudden instead
of a gradual decline in performance?

With the dual tanks you could have a faulty tank selector solenoid but my I would replace the pump if it were mine. As far as how difficult it is to change, in my opinion very easy, can be done in 1/2 an hour in 10 degree weather (only say this because I did it). I have had pumps go bad with no warning before as well.
To change the pump, remove the fuel lines, two bolts hold it in place and remove. Make sure to get all the old gasket off and simply bolt the new pump on.
i got a 1980 150 that i am putting a newer model motor in. i think that the motor is around an 87 model that i am puting in. is there supposed to be a slash guard on the timing chain cover for a mechancal fuel pump.
