Well i went to start my bronco the other day and it wont turn over. no lights or anything. its been sittin awhile so i thought it was a dead battery. pull it out and left it charge for maybe 30 mins to an hour tried it again. Nothing. So i put another battery in i had layin around. Turned the key lights on the dash came on and the buzzer went off. Went to start it and it clicked and the engine spun 1 time and then nothing. Left this battery charge for 4 hours. Battery charger said it was fully charged. Let the battery sit for 2 days then put it in and the same thing happend. So i tried to jump it. Pulled my Sunfire over next to it and it would only click once and then engine would try to turn over then die. So whats goin on with it? Bad batterys or what? I even hooked the jumper cables to the selonoid next the battery and nothing happend.
The first thing I'd do is get a known good battery in it. Take the batteries you've been trying to a parts store and get them tested. If they won't hold a charge, then there's your problem. Putting questionable parts in a vehicle is rarely going to help you troubleshoot a problem.
well i got a good battery and now when i go to start it, it just clicks really loud and really fast. Remember this thing has been sitting for a long time, maybe 7 months now
i thought it would be the starter since the selanoid is clicking but nothings happening so i went to Advance and asked what they thought and they said it was probably be the starter.
It is like Masseysbronco said, it's probably corrosion underneath the insulation of the cable. If the solenoid is clicking, it's just not getting the full juice needed to make the connection to send power to the starter. I experience this from time to time when the positive (and sometimes the negative) terminals get dirty (not just corroded. Since you have cleaned the connections, and tried a battery that you know is good, it is most likely the cable. Start with replacing the easy one, the positive side, that should take care of it...that is what my Bronco needed done about a year ago.
well i took off the starter today and i did alittle test on it. I took my battery charger hooked up the neg. to the grounding point on the starter then hooked the pos. to the positive bolt on the back of the starter and it sparked but didn't turn at all and it just hummed alittle. I'm guessin the starter is shot?
Try doing your starter test with your known good battery and jumper cables just like you hooked it up with your charger. Make sure the ground connection is good. I doubt your charger is going to put out enough juice to pop and spin the starter. If that doesn't work i'd still have it tested on the proper machine before just buying a new one. Make sure you watch the guy testing it, sometimes they won't do it right just so they can tell you it's a bad starter so they can sell you a new one. If the starter checks good then the only other thing it could be is the cables.
