The fan on my 302 (95) just fell off the other day. Spindle broke at the fan clutch. Question should I go about replacing the spindle clutch assembly or look at converting to an electric set up?
I've pondered doing this myself. What all does it entail? 1 fan...2 fans? Is there a 'complete kit' made for a certain vehicle? (302 automatic with air, tow package, etc...) I tow our pop-up camper a lot in the summer so I got an extreme duty fan clutch...man my Bronco sounds like a school bus now!
Flex-a-lite sells complete kits, but they kind of expensive. If you feel confident in your mechanical ability, you could pick up a taurus fan and put it in your Bronco. If you need the extra cooling, you can fit two on the radiator.
I looked at some while at the junkyard last week. I'm just wondering what fans would work and what wouldn't. By that, I mean will it provide enough cooling. I have an old Neon electric fan but I know that wouldn't be enough but I might use that as a second fan next to the primary. Anyone running electric fans...what type do you have?
Number of fans depends on how big they are. (Who sez size doesn't matter!)
Check the flow rate for whatever you are looking at....the more air it moves, the better the cooling. Electrics are a bit of a pain to put in, but worth it.
As far as fans go, I don't trust the electric fan setups. I have had them fail and/or have intermittent problems on 2 different cars we have had, as well as seen the problems on several of my friends cars when they get a few years old. My truck did that when I replaced the fan clutch too.
So, would the Black Magic 15" Electric Puller Fan alone be enough? It's rated at 2800 CFM. I have no clue what the cfm's are of the factory pulley mounted fan, which I guess depends on the clutch, to compare when looking at electrics.
2800 is not enough to keep your Big Bronco cool. I installed Flexalite twin fan setup on BigRed and absolutely love the results. Check the website for more data.
