Looking to relocate the spare from the floor of the bed. Have dual tanks so rules out under the truck style carrier. Anybody have a good method to secure it to either the bed side or the inside wall on the front of the bed (behind the cab). Thanks for the help.
Fourwheeler magazine had a carrier that they mounted the tire to the front wall of the bed with.
Can't look it up for you right now, but I believe that it was a couple of years ago in an S10 two wheel drive prerunner style buildup.
Your friendly neighborhood farm supply store, sometimes even Walmart, sells these for about $20. Takes about 1 hour to install as you have to drill some holes, but you can put it just about anywhere. Have also seen guys make the same rig out of the underbed carriers if one is laying around and you have a welder.
[font color=red size=2]The previous owner of my '73 made his own holder. A metal strap (about 2" wide) that was bolted to the inside edge of the bed and to the floor. Then a hole in the strap at the height of one of the lug holes on the spare, and a long bolt to hold the spare to the strap. It was mounted on the passenger side near the front, so the spare stood up against the side of the bed. The spare covers up the strap, so it's ok if it's a little ugly...

LMC has a clamp on carrier that mounts to the side/underside of your bed rail. No drilling! I don't have one yet, but I may do that in the future.
part #39-3820 $19.95
Thanks for the replies. I was looking at the LMC deal (JC Whitney has the same thing) I really like the idea of no drilling but would like to mount the tire to the front of the bed more so than the side of the bed. I think I will have to think about a design and try to fab something that will work. Something that can be locked would be nice as well.
