Question Bench Seat

Hello all,
I have an 03 limited and would like to remove the slpit bench seat and put in 2 captain chairs in its place.

How hard would this be, and would i need to drill more holes or ?????

The interior I have is tan and leather, and Im not even sure how much these seats would be, or if I could find someone that would want to tade or something.

It all may come down to price, and difficulty of installation, time will tell.
Any input or advice would be great.

Thanks for your time
Jeff

Not for sure, but the middle bench, I believe , has four anchor points. I think you'd have to weld at least four new anchor point in.

I am not sure what it takes to make the swap...but I might be willing to trade/sell you a bench seat.

scubudo,
Im not sure what you are saying?

I have in my X, the second row bench already, and Im looking to put in 2 captain chairs in its place. If you have them, I would be willing to talk.

If not, Im sorry if you missunderstood what I was attmpting to do.

It sounds like I need to take a good look at how many mounting points are on the seat now, and where they are.

Does anyone know the measurements of the mounting points for chairs in the second row?

Thanks for your time
Jeff

Jeff,

Sorry about the confusion. Yes, I have the twin buckets. Have been considering trying to find a bench.

scubudo,

thats ok about the confusion.

I think what we both need to do is, measure our mounting points to see how hard it would be to change the seats out.
I will take some measurements under my truck today and post them hear later.

I think it may be an easier task for you to mount a bench, but Im not sure about that.

Also out of respect and fairness to the forum we should only post instalation procedures etc. I will send you an e-mail to talk about all else. or you can e-mail me.

Thanks for your time
Jeff

Dang,
Anyone else want a bench seat?? This will be interesting to see how this works out. another way to see would be to take the 3rd row out and take a picture of the mounting points and write in the measurements onto the picture so you can compare. If you need help with that let me know!

scubudo,

Great news from this end, it appears that the x is already set up to accept either set up.

The nuts that accept the seat bolts look like thick washers, that are already mounted into place on the under carriage of the X.

I took a measurement from the first seat bolt to the first nut, going from drivers side to pass, it was 14 and a 1/2 inch approx, from center to center of hole this was done under the truck, and then from front to back it was 15 and 3/4 approx,. This measurment sould be the mounting holes for bucket seats.

If you could take a look at your bolt pattern, it should come out to the measurements that I just gave.

It seems to me that the only thing that anyone would need to do is, Drill the floor pan out above the nuts [thick washers] that are going to be used.
Also you would want to plug the holes that are no longer going to be used, with butyl, another bolt or both.

Going from buckets to bench I dont think you would have to mess with the carpet much at all, but going from bench to bucket I would have to be creative with mine. All in all it will be eassier to do than what I thought.
As long as Im correct in my measurments and observations.

Please let me know what you think and what the bolt measurements are on your seats.

Thanks for your time
Jeff

Sorry, I didn't get a chance to crawl under the truck today. I believe that you are correct in that it is set up to accept either seat configuration. I have read other posts that it is not difficult to do.

scubudo,
I do think all are set up this way, also we have the same year X which helps.
What color is yours?
Mine is the mineral gray, which looks like tan to me. I removed all of my tan boards, molding etc, and replaced them with black. Heck I still have all of those parts in the top of my garage in boxes.

If you are interested in trying to work something out, please let me know.
The bench I have is in great shape, I could send you pic's if you like.

Thanks for your time
Jeff

THis is neat !
FYI, I've tried both and the Bench seat is infinitly more comfortable and utilitarian than the short back bucket seats...

to me the "bucket" are far from Bucket seats, they are more like a HUMP seat but that's just my humble opinion....
