How much oil does your expy burn?

Hey guys I just wanted to know how much oil you guys are going through every 3k miles before an oil change. My '99 5.4L EB expy with 97,044 miles on it seems to go through about 2 quarts every 2k miles. I run Valvoline Synpower full synthetic 10w30.

oil

My 2000 5.4L gets changed every 3K or so---70K on the clock--no oil consumption that I know of even towing 1000 miles at 70MPH -- 1qt every 1K sounds pretty high consumption to me. But I haven't got that much experience to know for sure

I probably should have added to my original post that apon start up there isn't any blue smoke to be seen in the exhaust. Are my rings getting bad?

2000 Expy Eddie Bauer 5.4L also, and mine too uses over a quart of oil between 3,000 mile oil changes. I use mobil 1 synthetic 5W30. No indication of burning oil, like blue smoke and no leaks that I can find, never any oil on the garage floor or anything. What is up with these things. Oil burning rust buckets.

My '97 EB (5.4L) burns about a quart every 3k to 4k miles. Bought it w/75k mi, now has 126k+ on it. Consumption hasn't changed since I got it. Also, no leaks or blue smoke. IMHO, I don't think that consumption rate is a bad thing. Just means the oil is making it's rounds though all of the moving parts.

Yeah, my 99 Exp 5.4 two wheel drive burns a quart about every 2500 miles. I bought it new. It has over 130,000 now. It's always been that way, so I don't really worry about it.

Well I hope there is nothing to seriously wrong with my engine in my expy. Maybe I should start saving up for a lightning short block for later on down the road.

About a quart every 1500 miles. I used to have Jeep that went through a quart every 50 miles so I'm not complaining. You have to be burning a lot of oil to see it in your rear view mirror.

5-30 vs 10-30

My owners manual says 5-30 and that's what the dealer uses (for $18.95 it's not even worth me getting my hands dirty). I do use a quart of oil or so between changes (3000-4000 depending on my mood). But I noticed that it didn't use as much oil when I had it changed in the middle of a long trip at a lube shop that only had 10-30 available.

My impression is that if you have an engine that uses much oil...synthetic oil will just increase the amount lost, so I just use regular oil or a blend like pennzoil SUV.

I've been thinking about switching to one of the "high mileage" varieties that allegedly keep the seals sealing longer, but I didn't want to be laughed at by the oil obsessives in this forum.
