What color wheels?

I'm putting on some new rubber all around in the next month or so. Probably blackwalls (can't afford the whitewalls at this point). In lieu of upgrading my wheels, I've decided to go with the stock 16's and freshen them up a bit.

The question: Should I shoot them in the factory contrasting "Sungate Ivory" (current scheme), body color "Glacier Blue", the classic "hotrod red" or ???

Sorry, my gallery isn't set up yet. Won't be long. Hopefully my avatar gives you enough of an idea of what my pickup looks like.

I'm for basic black wheels, draws the attention to the fine lines of the body..

Well...mine are black (was that way when I bought it), but with the stainless "baby moons" that are on it I like them. They need Stainless trim rings though (IMO).

With your truck being a very light color, I think body color or the white even. If you paint them black or red, thats all everyone would see.

AK, check my gallery for stock wheels painted to match the trim. Although it's a 52, you can get the idea.
AK and everybody else: I am changing to 5 bolt this spring, and as it's an F2 and basicly stock, I don't want fancy wheels, but I do want to add just a little pizzaz.
I am going with the American Racing 767 series 16x8 (see my gallery for a pic) and I will paint them to match the trim as well.
That, and some nice sideboards and it should still look like a "classic work truck".
What'da ya think?

I'd go with anything but black...preferably a light contrasting color. If the truck is blue I would not paint them red and I'm not so sure about ivory and blue together. You are already running blackwall tires so if you paint the wheels black the wheelwells will just look like a big dark area. Paint them the body color or some other light contrasting color that goes well with the glacier blue...

The wheels on the '53 and '54 F-100's were painted the body color from the factory. The '55 and '56 wheels were painted the trim color snowshoe white (or it might be colonial white, not sure).

But it is your truck and you can do what ever you like.

From the Factory they were usually what the Colour of the Bumpers & Grille were, Colonial White or Black. Unless you Special Ordered a different colour on the rims that matched the Main Body colour.

Those of you who have read some of my threads about wheel & tire sizes, paint color etc... are probably tired of hearing about my indecisiveness. Today I finally made some decisions. I painted my wheels "Sungate Ivory" (or "Old Ivory" as NAPA/Martin Senour calls it). I headed down to "Kelly Tire" to have some new 215/85/16 Firestones mounted up. I brought with me my two front tires/wheels and the spare tire/wheel (plan was to mount the better of the two fronts on the spare, and make a trip down tomorrow with the rear tires/wheels). At the tire shop they measured my old wheels. One of my front wheels is 4" wide. The other is 4 1/2" wide. The spare is 4" wide but is beat up. Now what? I think I have finally resolved myself to prying open my wallet and just ordering new 15x7 or 15x8 smoothies all around...

Go with the 15x7 if you are going stock, or get custom back spacing, I have 15x8 and my fronts are fine but my rears stick out just a hair to much, I didnt go with the custom Backspacing and now wish that I did.

I'd be willing to bet that with the tires mounted you would not be able to see that 1/2 inch difference in width. If you have the bucks go with the new smoothies since a 7 or 8 inch wheel is going to look a lot better on the truck than those 4 inchers. Don't put 8 inch wheels on the front though. If you go with the smoothies and want all wheels the same width go with 7 inch. I'd be tempted to put 7s on the front and 8s on the rear but that's just me. It's your truck and you do whatever you think's best.

I'm for black. Used 16'' rims were the first thing I bought for my f1. I got 5 Firestone 6.50x16's from Coker. I know a lot of people like radials but I enjoy driving it like it was in 1948. When I get my 53 on the road this year(hopefully) I will probably have the wheels powder coated body color, but then again I'm kind of a purist...
