352 growling noise

352 growling noise
I know the 352 in my 65 f100 has many many miles, hoping to get another year out of it. It has what sounds like valve train noise at idle, vacuum gauge says valve guides are shot. But the noise at higher rpm's is like a growl, or diesel sound, no loose in power though, is this looseness/worn lower end? I'm I soon to break down? Other wise runs stong, always starts, just keeps going.

I guess it could be anything at this point. Since the noise changes with load, that seems to indicate to me something either in the bottom end or in the driveline somewhere. Flexplate or flywheel maybe? Main bearing? At this point, it's hard to say.

iF IT'S A STICK SHIFT YOU MAY BE HEARING THE THROWOUT BEARING ON IT'S LAST LEG..SOMETHING THATS EASY AND CHEAP TO GET FIXED,. i'D DO THE WHOLE CLUTCH IF THIS IS THE CASE..
