Need ball joint advice! PLEASE.

I have seen ball Joints get changed before and I KNOW I,m not getting involved it that job.

Any ways I'm on a limited budget and I was told before I can get a front end alignment I need a top ball joint changed on my 94 F-150 2wd. The mechanic told me that labor would cost $60 Canadian if I changed the top ball joint alone OR both the top and bottom ball joint together since its apart anyways.

I call the auto parts dealer for the upper joint and he says he has them for $25!! and a life time guaranteed ball joint for $66. What kind of ball joint cost $25?? is it made of plastic or what?

Should I buy the one quality ball joint or change the upper and lower with the $25 ball joints for the same price in labor? I have not seen these ball joints yet but for all I know the cheap ball joints have grease fittings and the quality one do not like the OEM are from ford.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I changed mine and don't remember them costing too much.As long as they have grease fittings and the mechanic aims the fitting so you can get to it when its back together, thats all that matters.should replace both.I think the lower actually has more load put on it.

I had all new ones put in my 1995 f150 4x4 in december. I got lifetime warrenty joints that cost about $150 for all four plus labor. No complaints so far. Mine are greasable. My mechanic and some people on this board recomended greasable hi-quality joints because they will last alot longer than stockers if greased regularly. I would advise going greasable lifetime warrenty joints. good luck

The greasable ones last longer as long as you keep them greased. If you're not going to keep them greased get the nongreasable Ford ones. Moog or the better Napa ones with the blue boots (made by Spicer) are both recommended by a lot of people.

I just changed all 4 of mine on my 90 f250 along with the tie rods. the shop I took it to wanted to charge me 1000 dollars for 4 new ball joints and new tie rod ends. I put the cheaper ones from autozone in mine, they came with a grease fitting so I dont see there being a probably from that. Its really not that hard if you just pay attention to the way everything comes apart.
