Bendix PS Box to Ford PS Box

Okay, after 33 years on the road without a problem my Dad's '68
F-250 steering box loses it in the garage! Will not hold fluid at all. I find out no-one wants to rebuild this (Bendix) box. So, it looks as if I have to swap to the Ford box. Anyone here done this? What do I have to look out for? And I really don't want to swap the column. FWIW, it is leaking around the sector shaft. I have the manuals (68 Ford) but not the equipment to do the adjustments under pressure. Any advice is welcome. Thanks, Keith

Keith, years ago, I took my truck to my local Ford dealership to replace the leaky seals in my steering box. The price then (11 years ago) was about $90. But I imagine they'd be happy to sell you the seals for a fraction of that, since you're just buying the parts.

I just went through the bendix box thing, look on the internet for steering box rebuilders to have it rebuilt,( askjeeves.com)as you cannot find parts for the bendix box anymore, getting it rebuilt is the only way to go as the rebuilders can mix and match parts. If you do the ford box route you need the shorter steering column and different drivers side motor mount.Ford did the bendix box as a direct replacement for the manual box when someone wanted PS from 66 to 69. The seals from the ford box will not fit. It was such a nightmare trying to get parts for my bendix box ( non existed) that I jummped on the first rebuilt box I found. Save your self time and get it rebuilt.

Keith, Have you tried NAPA? Surely there is a $3.00 seal that will work so you don't have to spend $275.00 for a rebuild
