heating problems 95 explorer

A buddy of mine has a 95 explorer and he is having heating problems. when the car is idling or if your driving under 60mph the heat is fine. When you get on the highway and start going over 60mph the temperature gauge drops and the heat starts to go cold. he just had a new thermostat put in. any input would be great. thanks

Was the problem there before he replaced the Tstat? If not, what temp Tstat was put in? I believe it should be a 192 or 195.

I agree with marragtop... my first thought was thermostat but you said it had been recently replaced? Faulty maybe?

Obviously you should check coolant level.
