I come to you for help. My sister-n-law owns an 02 or 03 expy with the 4.6L in it. It is 2 wheeldrive. The problem she is having is the Number 8 cylinder keeps misfiring. My brother has replaced all the plugs and has replaced coil packs on #7 and #8. What could possibly keep making the number 8 cylinder misfire?
He is thinking it is a fuel issue, he said it was the last cylinder to get fuel. My sister-n-law tells me that it misfires when she tries to pass. She said her check engine light flashes on and off when it is misfiring. I think my brother also said he changed fuel filter.
is it throwing a check engine light? If so pull the code and it will tell you what cylinder it is. I chased a miss in my old Ex for almost a week. It was #3 coil.

It is but only for a short time, They have pulled the codes and it said to replace the coil pak 7,8 of which they have, still get miss when pulling hills and all. I am wondering if it isnt PCV related, or maybe the MAF Sensor.
PCV elbow is a good place to start. Right at the back of the manifold is where it will crack. You cannot see it but if you run your hand along it you can definately feel it. MAF wouldn't give those symptoms. Mine had a bunch of false codes jump up. They ranged from misfires on different cylinders to crank angle sensors. I finally drove the S#$T out of it and made it throw a solid code. It was #3 coil.
You may have another bad coil pack that is just not tripping the CEL. You may have to buy another coil pack and begin swapping coilpacks on the remaining cylinders until you find the bad one.
