After 20 years of service the rubber seals in my fuel lines are failing. The line that runs from the filter to the injection pump is leaking at the pump due to a shot rubber. Where can I go for a new rubber or two? Also, what is the purpose of the return line that tee's off at the filter and goes to the #1 injector?
I had my lines custom made at a hydraulic shop, high pressure lines with crimped fittings at both ends. Most guys remove and plug the line that tees off the filter to the firts injector,it's a source for bleedback and hard starting.
the line that goes from #1 injector to the fuel filter was supposed to let excess fuel back to the filter instead of going all the way back to the tank. but all it ended up doing was letting air into the system when a leak developed in the return lines, letting the fuel filter drain back to the tank. ford released a tsb on the fuel return bypass back in 89-90 saying to block off the fitting in the filter housing, and eliminate the "T" on #1 return. by eliminating this line, the start die crank forever to restart problem after sitting overnight goes away.
Thanks to all who responded to my plumbing questions. I am going to eliminate the return line even though as far as I know it has never caused any problems on my rig which by the way is an '86 F-250. The rubber seals on the injection pump supply line are still elusive. It is not an O-ring but rather like a rubber compression sleeve. If anybody has a fix for this problem I sure would like to hear it. I guess custom made lines could be a last resort
