Bed Styles

Does anyone know for certain if the late 80's (88 and 89) offered a short bed with dual tanks, or were the dual tanks only available with the full size beds?
I was looking at a new box, but I can't tell for certain the length, and its too far away to go just to look, input would be great.

Seems like one of the guys I worked with, had one and said you could only get them with certain engine/trans combo's....I'm pretty sure it had a 302 with a 5 speed, don't recall axle ratio. I had a 87 extended cab shortbox with dual tanks though (1/2 ton)

hmmm... okay, that was the important thing. Mine is an '83 1/2 ton with dual tanks and a long bed, and I had been under the impression that dual tanks weren't available in short beds, now I know... still on the hunt for a good bed...

LOL, well damn...I sold my 87 for 50 bucks about 6 months ago...bed was real close to perfect aside from that crappy baby blue paint for d just loved to use. Word of advice though....the later the bed (up to 96 will work) the cheaper it will be. It's quite difficult to find a decent bed in our years of trucks. The only difference after 86 are the tail lights and the wheel wells. Personally I like the 87 up stuff better.

i'd like to keep with the bed style, not that anyone else would know, but i would. of course, that doesn't mean i won't end up with a later bed style, its not that big of an issue, it isn't a show truck after all. if i really don't like it, then i guess i can always add on a set of aftermarket fenderflares...

Yeah I don't know whats worse that baby blue or the white paint that the previous owner of my truck painted over it with (not a professional job) I would buy a '87-up bed but I just can't get over the fender wells not matching. Still looking for a 80-86 rust free bed and it is not an easy find.

Anyway the up to '96 bed will work and I'm almost sure the '94 F-150 my dad had a long time ago was a shortbed with dual tanks. F-250's of that era although rare in shortbed all had dual tanks.

Best bet for a shortbox with dual tanks is going to be a 4wd styleside (flareside trucks only had the front tank) truck, or if all else fails you can convert it to a dual tanks setup if you got a mig welder and grinder andd a few other tools.

I'm almost positive that the best bet would be an extended cab 4WD or 2WD short bed. In regular cab short bed dual tanks was only available on 2WD.
