Kwik filter help

So I went and picked up a kwik filter today from my local NAPA dealer. I have a quick question. The flange on the filter does not have a lip or a groove, it is just smooth. how am I going to get a hose clamp to stay on there? Is there a special type of hose clamp that I can use? The last thing I want to do is have me trying to save 100 bucks be the bemise of my truck because I can't keep my filter on. Thanks in advance for the help!!

take some coarse sand paper and scuff up the flange on the filter. try cleaning the inside of the boot and the outside of the neck with acetone or mineral spirits, something to really clean it after you scuff it up. it will also tend to make it stickier. what i did was remove the hose from the truck, heat the end of the hose with a torch, and pushed it over the flange when it was pliable. it also cooled and shrunk over the flange. then make a large clamp out of two smaller hose clamps and you should be good to go.

i was planning on using a piece of exhaust pipe in between the filter and the boot. Once I heard of some constant torque hose clamps? What are these?

one of these:

they are normally used in cooling systems, IE radiator hose connections. the spring enables the clamp to be tightened to a specific torque, and the same torque is applied on the band until the spring bottoms out. for instance, on a cooling hose, it will expand when it gets hot, yet you still need it to seal when it gets cooled down. so you use one of these.

Can I pick these up at NAPA or a local hardware store? Also, my truck is a early 99 with the differant air box, so do I want a straight piece of exhaust pipe or a 22 degree one? Thanks Strokin for the help!

A CT clamp, like strokin showed, is what I used on my filter to connect it to the exhaust tubing. The only place in town that had a CT clamp big enough to go over the filter flange was at my local Kenworth dealer. If you're not in a hurry for them, check here: http://store.airflo.com/rubber-hoses---clamps.html

But, at CT clamp is not necessary for that application. A T-bolt clamp, or even your worm gear clamps will work fine. It's under a slight vaccum, not pressure.

I pick up some T-bolt CT style clamps at NAPA that I liked better than the spring type for my Kwik. Just a little less give for vibration.

You are talking of the air filter right? That sits in the air tube BEFORE the turbo. That means it will be sucking and under vacuum and not pressure. So, does it really matter?

I'm not sure of exactly what you are asking, but I am concerned about any of the intake tube connections not being absolutely tight because if everything is not 100% sealed, the intake will suck in contamination and eventually dust the compressor wheel and engine. This is why I eliminated the factory air box and went with the Kwik filter to begin with.

Ok Guys, I did the mod today. I used a 45 degree piece of exhaust pipe to connect the filter to the intake boot and it worked like a charm. I am a little dissappointed though. The sound of my truck is important to me. I was looking forward to some more cool sounds from this mod, besides the extra air, but I hear nothing out of the ordinary. Did I do something wrong? Would plugging the red line on the wastgate help? Thanks for the help during my installation. Same effect as the top dollar system, but with cash left over!

Got any pics

Hey Fox...got any pics of the 45* tube you used? I tried the same thing and it kept bumping and rubbing against the intercooler pipe (the one with the silver insulation) and was pressed really tightly up against the master cylinder, so I just cut 2 pieces and connected my filter to the stock tubing and connected where the CCV pipe was....Let me know how you got by with no problems and I will try it again....Dave
