Unhappy Vibrating Expy

Hello everybody, I hope somebody can help me with my problem. I have a 2005 EB Expedition that suddenly began vibrating literally from one day to the next. It vibrates when I come to a stop, however if I put it in neutral or park it vibrates less. I have taken it to the dealer several times and they tell me they aren't getting any codes therefore there is nothing wrong with the car and the vibration I am feeling is normal. NOT!! There was never a vibration up until December. I have only seen one other person with the same description I have and I would appreciate some feed back if there is any. Thanks.

Please be a little more descriptive. Does if feel like the engine is vibrating or does it only do it when you're rolling? Do you feel it in the seat or steering wheel? Explain the vibration and maybe we can track it down.

I am experiencing the same thing in my 04 5.4 4x4 with Advance Trac and 19,000 miles. I will describe it in detail. The vibration is slight and can be felt throughout the whole interior. It only occurs while in drive, foot on the brake and just idling at a stop light. The rpm does not fluctuate and is steady at normal. As soon as you take off it is gone. Putting it in park makes it disappear as does neutral. I am not familiar with how the Advance Trac braking and power distribution works but I have a feeling that is the culprit. Any ideas, explanations or fixes for this? It is the strangest thing and I am glad I am not alone in this phenomenon.

Update. I just noticed that if you turn the steering wheel slightly when stopped, it makes the vibration disappear. Could it be the power steering? Whoever else has this vibration, try to move the wheel and see if it goes away on yours too. No one has any comments? At least I have narrowed it down to moving the steering wheel gets rid of it.

Vibration

Hello SeaLion,

Just purchased 2004 Navigator, 4 x 4, Ultimate, 32k miles.
It vibrates slightly when accelerating, low to mid rpm range.
The vibration is felt under foot, coming through gas pedal. I would describe it as a tingling sensation to my foot.
I'm taking it to dealer to have checked next week.

What your describing bullfrong is tire runout or hopping. (out of round and/or out of balance tires).

Ford has a TSB out on this...I have the exact same issue you describe on an 03 Navigator ultimate 2WD

I don't think its TIRES ... they said it VIBRATES when STOPPED. How can it be Tires Vibrating when car is STOPPED. I understand if it would be driving.

I had the same vibration on 98 navigator a couple years ago. Mine was fixed by removing the exaust bracket that connects to the trans. brace.

Navigator Vibration

Thanks Captron and all:

Fairly certain it is not tire(s) out of balance or flat-spotted, but I will have them checked.
Perhaps "vibration" is not quite the right term.
When pressing down on gas pedal, in gear, the tingling sensation comes through my shoe into my foot.
I would not say it can be felt throughout the cabin; really, feels like a rough drive shaft or transmission.
Nonetheless, it is not how it should be on an expensive SUV. My 2005 V10 F250 has silky smooth acceleration with no issues whatsoever.

nah, if that was the case, the title of the thread would have been 'Vibrating Sexpy'

Bullfrog...Did you ever get any satisfaction from the dealer on that gas pedal vibration?

I've got the same, more and more, want to bring my ('03 NAV) in for fix.

Vibrating Expy

Apologies to all for not posting sooner. Took 2004 Navigator in for balance and rotation on all OEM Michelin Cross Terrain tires. ALL tires were 1.5-2.0 ounces out of balance and that cured the vibration at 35mph and up.

Still, there is a very, very slight "tingling" sensation that comes thru the gas pedal into the foot when accelerating. Being very picky here, but it is nothing that I experienced previously with my 2000 Ford V10 Excursion and nothing I experience now with my 2005 F250 V10 crew cab.

So, I will continue to investigate in a few weeks when scheduled maintenance comes due at dealership.
