Parking Brake Problems

I just bought a 1988 Bronco II. I am having a problem with the parking brake. The brake works, as in it will stop and hold the truck, but it will not lock in the down position when I try to set it. Does any one have an idea what I woud need to replace? Thanks for your help.

I think there is some kinda linkage there like a gearing that holds it there it must be slipping off the gearing or the gearing lets go so the pedal comes back ....Not sure, maybe take a look under there and see what you see when it is engaging ...TR

Sounds like the spring that ratchets the lock isn't working (weak or busted?). You'll probably have to unbolt and remove the parking brake assembly and take a look at what's going on.

sounds like you need a brake kit and while you at it change out shoes.
