Gas Mileage

Today on the 6:30 news one of the large oil companies reported a 5 BILLION dollar profit for the first quarter which was a 50 percent increase from last year. Well no wonder, Have you seen the price of gasoline lately? Now ain't that a stupid question? The only way we can get the price down is to boycott one of the leading oil companies a week at a time. This would give us plenty of other gas companies to buy our gas from. In the meantime that piticular company would have to lower their gas price if they want to stay in business. The next week we could boycott a different oil company and continue on those lines. I think it will work but the problem is how do we get the word out? Another thing that ticks me off is why can't these automobile manufactures bulid a motor that can give us 30 MPG? They don't seem to have a problem doing that with the big lincolns and cadalics. Any opinions? Has anyone taken one of these high mpg motors and put one in a high 60's of 70's F-100? Let me know???

30mpg Lincolns and Cadillacs have highway gears, Fuel Injection, some kind of tuned port intake, and do not have the aerodynamics of a brick. I got 17mpg with a straight six and 4.10 gears in my 68, about the best I've heard of from a ford truck, my dad used to get 15 with the 360 that was in my other truck.

A company that has been recording gas prices for the last 50 years reported that this is the biggest increase they have ever seen. One CEO said it directly related to new refining processes and that's why oil prices are the same but gas prices are up.

Another thing that bothers me is that oil prices went down and gas prices didn't. Even back durring the Gulf War, when prices did go up, the oil companies reported record profits.

They truely have us between a rock and a hard place. I'm glad my truck isn't my daily driver.

Ever notice that when gas prices go up they do it a dime or more at a time, but they come down a penny at a time. I agree that we need to go on a fuel buying strike. Big oil depends on the gas revenue coming in each day. If we as a nation would just not buy gas for 2 days the message would be heard.

As long as our old trucks are paid for, the gas can be afforded with some thoughts like this... Look on the Ford lot and the cheapest truck with a V8 engine and A/C is near $20,000. As for me the gas is expensive but the thought of buying expensive gas and making payments on a new truck too is a nightmare!

I wouldn't want to own one of these ungly new Fords if they got 50 miles to a gallon. I'm affraid to check the mileage on my 67 f250. If you want to drive a classic, you have to pay. Money always talks and big busniesses, gas co's, ATT, energy co's, etc.
will continue to rip us all off with the blessing of the good old
US gov. no matter who is in office.

Sorry to get carried away.

Then again you can get yourself a piece of garden hose about 4-5 feet long?

Handle it!!

I was hearing last night on the news that the price of Regular this summer may reach as high as $3.00 a gallon--partially due to the California fire. Never thought I would have to spend $120 to fill up my truck before.

I think what we need to do is find an efficient way to extract Hydrogen Gas from good old H2O. Then we will be using our garden hoses to fill our tanks!

Yeah, the whole situation is really pretty bad for us. The government isn't going to step in apparently (but they'll say they will until the cows come home), and a boycott is too inconvenient for too many to really make enough difference. Until someone has a better idea, or the government worksout some better deals, we're kind of over a barrel (no pun intended.)

why does everyone want the government to jump in and save us? i hate the government.the democrats are what raised the prices to begin with.they want you to buy a smaller car and or take public trans.duh wake up every body.look at the big picture here.they also want you to be dependent on them to help ya when in need.government intervention is the last thing we need.

I imagine the government is already well involved, but in a manner that puts money in their pockets. I don't necessarily want them more involved, just BETTER involved... probably an addage that will be (and has been) repeated formany years.

The Gas Prices are hurting everyone but dont look to your goverment for help especially your newly elected President George W. Bush he and his daddy are from Texas and are very big Oil men they own many oil wells so with gas like it is he making the bucks so with gas prices so high that makes his oil wells more profitable. If oil companies are reporting a 50 percent gane he is part of that too.I dont see how Oil Companies can jack up prices by saying its costing them more and still make that much.Even though there maybe quite a few Gas Companies its still a Monoply because it all comes pretty much from the same place. And all Gas Companies charge about the same price. Its called Price galging and the Goverment just investigated them and cleared them of that. But you know there doing it.But now Car companies are forced to start making these hybrids you've seen that get 60 to 80 miles a Gallon we are becoming less needy of gas and more of electricity it will kill the gas companies but bring up the electric companies. When people do own electric cars gas companies will still charge high prices because no one will need it.Some day the world will run out of oil.Better to be ready and less dependent on it when that day comes.

Interesting, see the attached link.

http://www.msnbc.com/local/kprc/a384690.asp?cp1=1

I honestly don't think a boycott of a particular company or another will solve the problem. Rather, it is much more fundamental Economics 101 solution. People just need to drive less, creating lower demand. Then as the supply increases, prices will decrease.

It is very aggravating to see the oil giants report record earnings while petro prices skyrocket. To compound the issue, our economy is on shaky ground as it is. The only thing our beloved govt should do is allow more domestic exploration/production so that reliance on foreign hogs is reduced significantly.
