i have a ATV trailer that i will be hauling 1 ATV with Gvwr of trailer is 2,090 and the weight of the Atv is about 550 lbs.How do i know if i have tne 7-10% Tongue weight correct? Is it how the ATV is placed on the trailer????
You would have to know the exact weight of the trailer and the load, to know how much that number is. For example; 300# trailer, 550# quad is 850#, that would put the best tongue weight at about 85#(10%). Then you would have to get a scale out and move the load around on it ( the trailer) until it hits that number. Then mark the position on the trailer.
An easier way to do this is to load the quad on the trailer until the back of your car squats about an inch. Tie everything down securley and take it for a test drive. If the front of the car feels light then move the quad back a little bit on the trailer and try it again. After you do this and everything feels good driving, mark the location on the trailer to allow you to put it in the same spot everytime.
Both styles work well, and with the light weight of the quad and trailer you are working with a bathroom scale would work ok.

The best range is 10 to 15% of total load on ball. The closer to 15% the better it will track though this is more criticall with heavier trailer than lighter ones. As long as you are in the 10 to 15% range you will do fine,.

Truth is that weight won't make any differance at all. Just run the ATV all the way forward on the trailer & tie it down. It will tow just fine.
