95 Windstar blown amp

Hi,

I have a 95 windstar with the premium sound.

Not had any sound out of the speakers since I bought it (about a month ago) though I do get sound out of the rear headphone sockets.

Finally traced it to a blown amp. Got another amp and still not working.

There are 2 connectors going to the amp, an 8 pin that comes from the radio and then an 11 pin, 8 of which go to the speakers, 1 ground and 1 is a 6V line coming from the radio (when the radio is turned on - presumably telling the amp to 'turn on') the last wire I'm presuming should be the +12v (purple with blue stripe) as it happens all the damage inside the old amp was on this pin - but there is no 12V on this wire, I've checked the fuses and these are good.

I know I could just pull the old radio and install something newer with the relevant by pass cables, but I like the idea of the rear headphone sockets / controls which I would lose with a new one, plus I've already sunk money into a replacement amp.

I guess my next thing is to cut the original 12V wire and find another 12V source to see if things then work, before I do this though I thought I'd see if anyone had any other ideas or knew if there was any sort of relay on this wire?

Thanks
James

the issue you will run into if you put a new radio in is that you have to wire past the headphone jacks. I remember these vans because of that issue. It would overheat a radio.
