Alright I have a 88 f-150 std cab 5 speed where can i mount a cb in this darn thing i was thinkin like one of those smaller cobra ones....has anybody else had this problem and how did u fix it?
thats exactly where mine is mounted. but the problem with me is that i got the truck given to me about 6 months ago and the cb is in there but there is no antenna and it is not hooke up. i wouls like to hook it up , but know nothing about cbs.
what kind of antenna do they need, and where to mount it?
how do they hook up (just ground, batt. and ignitionswitched leads like a radio?)
an any general info on cbs would be appreciated thnks
Well, they need a CB antenna (can't remember the actual name of the coax cable)
befor you hook up power and ground make sur ethere is a fuse on the power wire, there should be a fuse on the wire itself or there should be a replacable fuse on the back of the CB.
Fuses are there no to protect the equipment, but to protect the truck.
When you get it all hooked up with antenna, I suggest you find an article on how to properly use squelch and gain etc.. unless you already know But not understanding either will result in poor reception as they have to be set fairly precise.

I was in the same predicament a few years back with my '88 F-150. Found a Cobra unit with all the controls and speaker contained in the handset. I mounted the base unit under the seat. Only thing visible is the coiled cord up to the dashboard-mounted handset.
I mounted mine near the bottom of the dash directly underneith the radio. There is a pic in my gallery. This may not work for you as you have a 5spd and i have an automatic trans. Ive also heard of people mounting them in place of the ash tray drawer or even from the roof.
I prefer to mount mine on the ceiling in line with the rear view mirror. Nice and convenient to have it there and you don't have any noise issues from the wiper motor like you could when mounting it on the dash.
I agree with hillbilly here, it looks a lot better with it mounted on the ceiling. That way, you can have your cord hang down and you look more like a redneck. Just my two cents.
I just installed mine onto the ashtray/cig lighter pulldown. Only problem is, the cb is too heavy and the tray stays down. I would like to mount it on the ceiling. How do you attach it, will the bolts come all the way through the roof?
im not sure, but if the roof is anything like my cheby, the roof is double layer, and you could set 4 self tappers, short ones, right into the inner skin, and not be able to see it from the outside.
i put a cb that is older than me on the roof and it is held in with scrap peices of sheet metal bent to a 90 degree angle. I am sure you guys have brakets but with that old of a cb i was just happy it worked. Mine held up even with going down horible dirt roads at 60 with two self tappers into the linning. they have to be extreamly stort though.
