Question rough ride

Hey I have a 2000 explorer 4x4 with the 4.0L SOHC. Its got 60,000 miles and for a lil while (a year or two) I've notice that the ride is a bit rough, esp. around town. I've had the ball joints replaced less than a year ago so I assume they are still good. I'm running about 30 PSI all around. The highway ride is about the same, but around town, it seems as though i can feel every bump and that the suspension isn't damping them too much. Would new high quality shocks help? I think i could could do that in my driveway right?
Let me know if thats just the way these explorers ride or if there is something I can do about. Thanks to all with any suggestions.

to check out your shocks you can put your weight on the corners of your car and then release it, if the car continues to move up and down more than once I would replace the shocks and yeah its really not too hard to do yourself I would buy a haynes guide for it if you dont have one though

thanks for the reply. I bounced the car on all corneres and it settled like it should, quickly, I have seen worn out shocks before and these are not like them at all. Would buying some edlebrock, bilstien or rancho improve the ride at all?
