I've got a 95 F-150 4x4 w. 5.8L. I sometimes get fuel splash when filling at the pump, and sometimes get fuel leaking from somewhere near the filler neck. (Knock on wood, both tanks pump fuel properly and don't cross over.)
Is there any part of the fuel filler that can cause this? It can happen when filling either the midship or aft tank.
I've worked on two trucks of this style that had this problem. The filler is a two part item, the outside working as a vent and a hose down the middle, which is where the fuel runs down to the tank while filling. The F-450 diesel that I worked on someone had cut the middle hose off while working on it(for god knows why) and on the F-150(my current truck) the hose down the middle had swelled up from age, almost negating the venting that the rest of it does. In both cases, it was fixed by finding a nice one in the junkyard and replacing it.
May want to pull one of yours out and inspect it to make sure that the hose in the middle has swollen and/or isn't missing or to short. Could even be something as simple as the outside hose(where it runs from the main body of the neck to the tank) being slightly kinked or damaged in some way.
