cleaning plug wires

what is the best way to clean plug wires without ruining them. it is only old slime and oil. thanks

If we're talking grit here, put on some rubber gloves, and with a rag filled with hand cleaner, rub each wire down, a quick spray with water and you're done. Otherwise simple green or Gunk foaming engine brite.

If they are heavily oil soaked replace them.

One of the few good uses for WD40, the solvent in it is a good cleaner and it won't hurt the wires.

WD-40 is all you need. Brake clean is hard on rubber, it promotes drying it out. Try the WD-40 with a rag trick like mentioned above, it is really the very best way to clean them. WD-40 is an amazing cleaner....tar from your paint, grease from parts, adhesive from stickers...and so much more. No garage is complete with at least 5 nearly empty cans of WD-40 laying around....
