I am not getting enough stopping power when the pbrake handle is engaged. I adjusted (tightened) the cable at the equalizer assembly but it didn't make much difference. I read in an old post that you should adjust after two clicks or so on the handle. Are there any other tips? Maybe I didn't tighten it enough, but it seemed like I did. Slipping pbrake and tranny slipping out of park is not a good combo.
It sounds like your rear brakes themselfs are out of adjustment. You may want to inspect your rear brakes. Some times the automatic adjusters get gummed up and don't adjust. If the brake shoes are to far from the drums than the park brake will not have enough stroke to apply the shoes to the drum.
I had a similar problem and found that one of the cables coming off the equlizer going to the wheel was frozen and not working. So check to make sure both cables are actaully working. But it does sound like your back brakes are gummed up.
I upgraded my emergency brake from a 79. I reworked my whole brakes upgrading to a 79 f 150 front end gaining P Disc Brakes and tilt plus PS. I have a bum shoulder and had a rustd up orig pull. All rusted and non working. I installed he 79 very ez and replaced the emer cables at both rear wheels and one for iside the cab. Now I can just lock her down by shoving down.
My 2 cents.

Coop, it appears that jd has upgraded his brakes to the self adjusting type. If yours are original, they are not self adjusting, at least mine are not..it may the differance between an F250 and 150. Anyway, adjust the rear shoes and see if that doesn't help. And, if you have the desire, you can upgrade yours to self adjusting while your at it.
Maybe I adjusted them myself. I can't remember if they had the adjusters I just assumed. Having one of those senior moment I guess.
You got me thinking and I think prostock might be right and that may be what corrected mine was a simple adjustment. It was during a time when I was doing a lot of work on the truck due to having to install a complete front clip.
Prostock I will have to check but I believe you are correct Adjust the rear drums and it will help your park brake.
I assumed they were self adjusting. The shop manual and the chiltons both said so. This is a 65 f100. Overall stopping power is pretty darn good compared to some other fords I have owned. I can remember a galaxie 500 with mandatory pumping of the brakes at every stop sign. That was 27 years ago. I have a little more sense now.
