hey all, i need to put in a new ring gear. the truck will not start anymore unless i pop start it. i am thinkin about doin it myself but a friend who runs a garage says he will do it for like 350.00 . he says we should put in a new clutch also. i didnt get a price for that. my questions are
1- is it worth the 350 or should i attempt it myself?
2- should a new clutch go in? it works fine now
3-any idea how much it will cost to add a clutch to the job?
THE TRUCK IS AN 87 F350 4WD,460 4SPD,MAN,W/OD,DUAL WHEEL FLATBED

The Ring Gear doesn’t cost much. If you can take the Flywheel off and have a torch just heat the old one up and knock it off. Let the flywheel cool down. Put the new ring gear in the oven or heat it with the torch and when it is good and hot take it and drop it on the flywheel.
If no torch just take the flywheel and new ring gear to a machine shop and they will do it for you for about $40.00.
If you are unable R&R the Flywheel, call around to a few Auto Repair shops and get their prices.
