I'm going to look at an 89 F-250, 4wd, 460-with manual. Not sure if it's a 4 or 5 speed. Being that it's an 89 I'm assuming it's EFI. MY old 300 straight six was EFI and it was a reliable set up. How is the EFI on the 460s? Would I do better trying to find a carbed motor? Also, how reliable are those manual trannies? Are they pretty heavy duty?
from what I was readin in my repair manual (leftover from my 93 F-150) the ZF was used as the HD tranny for 2wd. The T-18 was a 4 speed used on the 4x4s. including the F-250. Not sure though.
The fuel injecton can be reliable and more efficient. . .but remeber your buying an engine with an electronics system thats 17 years old and has been exposed to extreme heat and cold, wet and dry and a myriade of chemicals for its entire life. . .problems can arise and can get exspnsive. Just coming from a been there done that experience.
Now, thats not to say it wasn't extremely taken care of, or give you many years of trouble free service, but the older an EFI system is the more problems can arise more frequently.
