Fender Fitment?

So we are assembling the front of juniors 66 F100 Left front fender was never removed, core supprt was removed and reused right front fender has been replaced with a wrecking yard unit. Passenger door has never been off and fits well. Now to get a good even gap at the front edge of the door, we had to shim up the core support on the right side about 1/2 inch. This will throw off the bumper to body alignment. Should I attempt to raise the fender higher on the core support or realign bumper mounting? Gotta love bodywork

What condition was the truck in when you started? Has it ever been hit (as far as you can tell)? Is the replacement fender true and not tweaked? You may want to take some measurements and make sure that the frame is okay. On a vehicle that old, who knows what it has been through.

The truck has seen some previous repair but to what extent is not visible. It does not appear to be tweaked any to cause this and everything else lines up great. We still have to tighten the rear fender bolts and will play with it a little more.

I feel your pain. Body fitment can be a real pain in the...well, you know. Take your time and check everything. A frame that is slightly out of whack can cause a ridiculous amount of headaches. Sometimes body panels seem to only line up with their original partners. You could be a victim of stacked tolerances...one panel is a fraction of an inch off, then the next one is off, and so on...

Oh, and body work IS alot of fun. Well, at least tell yourself that. It may help.

Well I think we are going to leave the washer stack under the core support so that all of the grille and lower valance/splash shield parts align properly. Then deal with the bumper fitment later. Went to the other end and welded in a roll pan, actually a upper portion of the bed from a parts truck, amazing how well it fits. probably not as easy as buying one but I'll bet it is a lot stronger. We even left one stake pocket hole to mount the license plate light in. Well that was our excuse for not welding it up anyway. We got the vertical box seams welded and the cab seams welded. Hopefully not too far from paint now. Did I mention I hate body work ?
