Can I replace the high torque starter in my 1994 F150 w/302 with the old typy more standard starter??
No, I wanted to do this too and checked into it but found no way to do it without changing out the Transmission with an older Transmission and/or Ring Gear because of the offset. Never figured out if it would work even then and nobody on any forums seem to know. Most did not even seem know there was a difference in starter offset.
OK, Thanks!! One more question: Do the high torque starters require more power or less to run than the older Ford starters?? reason is that my engine developed an extended crank about two years ago and NO ONE can find out why-it turns and turns and turns before the engine finally starts after its warm and sits longer than 15 minutes to 6-7 hours-I wonder if this contributed to the demise of my starter??
Try turning the key to Run and then back to Off about four times before trying to start it. See if this makes it harder or easier to start.
Note that the Fuel Pump(s) only runs for one to two seconds when the key is turn to Run. But the pump(s) will run again when the EEC sees the PIP signal coming in.
Guys, Hey, Thanks for all the replies and suggustions about my starting problem-Yes, the Ford dealer mechanic checked fuel pressure and for drop off and found no problems--after driving it this way for 2 years now I have come to the conclusion that it is "cold starting" every time it starts an it runs rough for just a few seconds like its flooding--going through the cold start mode when it doesn't need to--I have practicly given the dealer Cart-Blanch to fix it and they say they will when they are able to find the trouble.
SUB, You are about the 5th person that has said they suspected the coolant temp sensor--so now I'm going to change it and see what happens--this is the one foe the temp guage isn't it?? THANKS!!!!

NO, it has nothing to do with the temp gage. It is used for the amount of fuel injected into the engine and the timing. This is the one with two wires on it and is wired to the PCM not the dash. This is one of your most important sensors as to the running of the engine.
The one with one wire on it goes to the temp gage and is called a sender.
