Question Here's a thought

I was thinking about how to get rid of the two piece glass for the doors. When i thought that i could just get rid of the door hinges altogether and go with the suicide hinges. I would free up the space and create a really custom truck. Anybody have an opinion on this. Your comments would be appreciated.

If you could make it work that would be unique. I don't understand how it will get rid of the two pieces of glass.

Been there, done that, and yes it works quite well. Now, I wish the truck I did it on was still around here so I could send you some pics of it, I'm not real good at describing things in writing, but I'll try. You could use one of the hidden hinge kits available from a number of street rod suppliers. Basically, what we did was take the hinges from the front of the right door and move them to the back of the left door, and vice versa. It takes a lot of careful measuring and cutting, definitely not a job for an inexperience fabricator but with a lot of thought and patience it can be done. I'm going to be doing it on one of my own trucks this summer sometime. I'll definitely be taking pictures as I go this time.... With the number of suicide door cars and trucks showing up at car shows, I would think someone has hinge kits available, you could try a google search...

The door hinges are in the way making it harder to install the one piece door glass.

Door glass in these pickups are flat glass. I just make a template using masonite and take it to my favorite glass shop. Had the door glass and the back window cut out of dark tint (as in so dark it is barely legal) glass. Looks great.....

Your profile says you're in Minnesota, where at??? If it's a problem for you locally, get hold of me and I can direct you to some glass shops in my area that will cut it. Most any glass shop can cut it, just that some of them won't bother doing it.....

Template should be the same for both sides. I used to use carboard for a template, I found with masonite the template is more exact plus I can put it in the channel and check for correct operation. A bit of sanding and shaping on the masonite is a lot easier then trying to sand on the new window...

I've seen alot of suicide door kits since i started the thread and the average price is around 300.00-400.00. I'm not good at fabricating metal so i'll probally have it done when i come back from iraq. Does anybody know a good type of paint? Im looking for a metallic blue.
