a magazine back in the day did a study on car manufactures having their vehicle's speedo off. I recall BMW X5 having it the worse...off by 12mph...Normally cars/trucks are off aout 8-10mph on average..That is why the police gives you the leniency of speeding over the speed limit of a least 5-10mph due to the speedo being off from the factory.

How are you coming to the conclusion that your Speedo is off?

well, lets see... in a 25 mph zone I am doing 40 while driving next to one of the cities finest and other cars around, on freeway I am doing 80 and being passed by busses and big rigs, when the truck is shut off the speedo registers 10 mph now as to where it always read 0 before.... now I'm just guessing, but I think that might make my speedo off just a tad

I gave him the benefit of the doubt that he was a trained smokey who had the ability to distinguish the speed of cars

There's a TSB on this problem. All of the gauges in the cluster will be affected - not just the speedo.
