Transmission Temp Guage Question
When it is nice and cold out, (first thing in the morning) and I go to start my truck I turn the key on to get the glow plugs fired up. As I wait I notice the trans temp guage reads aprox 1/4 before I even start it. It seems to warm up faster than the engine then settles in at about the halfway mark when the engine is warmed up. Now I know you all say I need the aftermarket guages. They are in my future plans. But for now I need to know if it is more common to be the sending unit or the actual dash guage causing the problem. Even with the aftermarket guages I want to fix this.

My dash guage comes up to the lower end of the scale, even this morning at -11º F! Not 1/4, but it does come up. As stated on this forum before, that guage is nothing more than a 3 position idiot light. By comming up when it's first started it's saying, Yep, the tranny is still here, hasn't fallen out yet. By the time it ever reads HOT, your tranny has already been toasted.
