Hi I have a 79 F-250 and im redoing the engine compartment. The inner fenders are the galvinized type but they are showing some surface rust and they dont look to good. Does anyone have any sugestions on what to do with them? thanks alot,Matt
Ive painted them before with aluminum paint, black paint and light gray paint. On my '74 im working on now, i plan to try the rustoleum Hammered Metal paint--silver and also try their industrial stainless steel paint. They make the hammered metal paint in several colors. The stainless steel paint looks good too, I just sprayed my spindles with it.
I painted mine the body color of the truck. It makes a huge difference. Sand them well, use an etch primer and then basecoat/clearcoat. Check out my picture gallery link below, there are pictures in there.
Ospho or POR15 would be my first choice, and if you don't mind limited color selections, paint them with BBQ paint afterwards, and the paint will be there essentially forever. BBQ paint is heat resistant, and since inner fender liners are near the manifolds... why not give them a chance.
I've done the rustoleum thing before, and it looks great for a couple of years but eventually got baked off.
