Before you put in a 351W, you might want to put in a good RV cam, I will give you more torque, and alittle better HP and mileage than a stock cam, and while your at it, headers would be a good idea also.
If it would be carberated, then a new intake and 4v carb, but I would mostlikly be fuel injected, and I'm not to knoledgable about all that, so I'll stop there.
Flat top pistons, compression makes power.
My 351w is an animal.
I wish I had put in a cam, but I am running the stock one for 86.
I have kieth black hyperwhatever flattop pistons, mildon high volume oil pump, edelbrock air gap intake and 580 holley street avenger.
what kind of mileage do you get with the carb model over the fuely tryin to figure out whether its worth stayin with the fuel injection but if its only a mile or two im going with the carb also was told i could get more power out of the carb any sugestions thanks
I have a carberated 302, and I can get 16mpg in town when taking it easy, but a fuel injected engine will get better gas milage, and as far as power goes, it depends.
how hard would it be to convert to a carb 351 from a computer controlled 302 and what all would i need ? a friend has a 351 that is carb and i have a 302 fuely computer controlled in my 90 eddie bauer bronco 5 speed is there any certain years that i should want or stay away from and is pretty much a drop in ?ive looked around and there seems to be a lot more performance related parts out there for the carb model as i said i pull a large camper and like to have a somewhat torqey engine and fuel economy is a concern too (i know im asking for alot ) (drive alot of highway) was also told that if i built a strong enough engine that i wouldnt need to change the gears for a while ? not shure about that .
well. ur gonne need to change ur fuel system for non efi and thats it. unless u got a computer controled tranny. an f4te block is a realy good find, its a roller. if i wer u id up the compression a bit. headers. comp cam torqer cam or extream 4x4 works good. do a decent port job debur everything. get rid of that nasty egr. decent intake and exaust. and u should have a good motor with respectible milage and great power. i did a simialar but i stayed efi.
maybe its ok started it and seem to run ok the day before all this happened i changed the egr (thinking this was a good one better than my other one) well all this seemed to happen and i talked to my friend and he said all these symptoms that i have sounded like the egr was bad so i took of the one i just put on and put my old one back on and reset the computer runs ok but now another prob my clutch has no peddle ? ive had to pump it up in the mornings and now nothing any ideas does it sound like the master cylinder or the slave no fluid on the ground .and hose is good how do i identify my trans its a 5 speed
thanks again
john
The trans has an id should be on the vehicle tag on the driver's side, but I would suspect that it is the M5OD. The EFI 351 should be a direct swap as long as you have the 351's wiring harnasses it came with originally and it is the EEC-IV harness. Fordfuelinjection.com has some useful information on the EFI if you want more info. It is a swap site though but the information is a good read for learning more about Ford's fuel injection.
